LGSS launch new business approach for schools and academies - LGSS

LGSS launch new business approach for schools and academies

With an operational budget of £1.8m, LGSS currently manages business support services for 79% of circa 700 schools and academies, working in collaboration with Cambridgeshire County Council, Milton Keynes Council and Northamptonshire County Council.

The Challenge

An increasing number of schools are converting to academies, prompting an accompanying pressure for schools to make savings and manage their own budgets.

To become the supplier of choice for all schools and academies across the region, LGSS has embarked on a project to review and improve its services – incorporating standardisation, self-service and automation to reduce costs and make the service more customer friendly and accessible.

The Solution

Customer satisfaction for the LGSS school and academy service is already incredibly high – with 98% of customers rating the service satisfactory or above in 2016.

However, LGSS felt further work could be done to standardise and simplify its processes for customers. LGSS undertook significant research at bursar meetings, school seminars and forums, listening to anecdotal evidence and challenges within educational establishments.

This feedback enabled the development of a new ‘services to schools’ website, which will allow schools and academies to search for the services they are interested in and access contracts, service level agreements (SLAs), policies, advice and guidance via a secure portal.

Under the new streamlined system, schools and academies will be able to easily navigate to the information they need, without having to call or email their council. This will save schools and academies’ time, whilst offering an online library of helpful information.

LGSS has also enhanced its provision to offer a standardised package of services to support core needs, with the flexibility for schools and academies to request a bespoke package as required.

Results

In 2017, LGSS launched a series of school and academy webpages, providing up-to-date information and contact details for new and existing customers. These pages will support customers until the launch of the new portal in April 2018.

All schools and academies across Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire are eligible for a combined core service providing cost-efficient business support in:

  • finance
  • ICT
  • HR
  • continuous professional development (CPD)
  • health and safety
  • wellbeing
  • payroll and recruitment
  • procurement
  • insurance
  • legal advice
  • audit and risk

The LGSS combined service enables schools and academies to focus on teaching and assessment while LGSS provide full business support and administration.

“We have a great connection with our schools and academies but we’re always looking to make things better. This way teaching staff and senior school leaders can leave the business admin to us and maximise their time in the classroom.”

– Anne-Marie Brown, Business Development Manager
